Our company name Haasch, was created by merging the surname de Haas and Schutt. We are a family business that operates as Haasch Pty Ltd in Australia and Haasch UK Ltd in the United Kingdom. We work as a team between London and Brisbane to bring our sustainable products to a diverse group of like-minded people around the globe.
Our aspirations are to help ensure attitudes and thinking processes change as a disposable society towards consideration for planet and human health.
Alison’s deep love for nature and a background in applied science led to a career in environmental health and furniture design. Her expertise in the field of environmental health spans across environmental toxicology, environmental hazards, waste management, water and wastewater, pollution science, education for sustainability, communicable diseases, infection control and food safety.
Alison has an in-depth understanding of factors in our everyday environment that may have an impact on human health and the environment we live in. Her objectives in product design therefore aim to integrate environmental and human health criteria at all stages of the product lifecycle: design, manufacture, distribution, consumption, and finally reintegration of the discarded product into the economy.
Sita has worked in the field of international development and private philanthropy for over 10 years. Her field investigations and work with the charity, Prospero World, founded in 2008, has taught her a great deal about what inspirational people can do in very difficult circumstances. However, her passionate interest in umbrellas was a direct result of living in a city where it frequently rains! London.
Exploring the shape and form of the umbrella in drawing and sculpture with Paintbox studios, combined with the realisation that current umbrellas are mostly made of plastic and metal, led to the desire to create an umbrella and a parasol that was both good-looking, fun to go out with and kind to the planet. In a former incarnation as an academic, Sita has directed plays and written articles about detectives, spies, London and telephone calls.
Haasch UK is the sister company to Haasch Australia: it is a family business designed not only to improves life for others but a way of staying close even when we are far apart.
